Vanessa da Mata is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and Ben Harper is an American musician who plays a mix of blues, folk, soul, reggae, and rock music. I was recommended this song by my friend Dakota, who shared with me this quote that Vanessa said about the song: “A little bit later, I sang the melody of ‘Boa Sorte’ to him [Ben Harper] on the phone. Simply, naturally. Immediately he found the right words in English to answer the Portuguese lyrics, as if he was touched by the power of the lyrics and the sweetness of the melody.”
