“New Year’s Day” is a song by Irish rock band U2, who were formed in 1976. This song was released on their 1983 album “War.” It was the band’s first hit single, reaching #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
The song was inspired by the Solidarity movement in Poland and the role that music played in the resistance against the communist government. You can hear more about this in episode #14 of the Song Per Day podcast, released today! (Listen here)
