This is one of my favorite albums of all time. It is the first album from the indie folk band, Bon Iver. Yes, it is a band, not one person. The band is fronted by Justin Vernon, who wrote and recorded this unique album in his father’s remote hunting cabin. After recovering from a bad illness and a bad breakup, he retreated to the cabin for a few months. Regarding the name “Emma” used in the album (and song) title, he said: “Emma isn’t a person. Emma is a place that you get stuck in. Emma’s a pain that you can’t erase.”
