I came across this song today while scrolling instagram and was instantly reminded about how fun and catchy it is. Murder on the Dancefloor is a classic dance-pop track by British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Released in 2001, the song quickly became a massive hit. The track was the second single from her debut album Read My Lips which was released the same year.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor first gained prominence as the lead singer of the British indie band Theaudience in the late 1990s. After the band disbanded, she pursued a solo career and released Read My Lips in 2001. The album was a commercial and critical success, spawning several hit singles including Murder on the Dancefloor.

The song is a high-energy dance-pop anthem with a catchy chorus and a driving beat. The music video demonstrates that one interpretation of the song is about cutthroat tactics in competitive dance.

Murder on the Dancefloor was a huge commercial success, reaching the top ten in multiple countries including the UK, Australia, and Canada. It also earned Ellis-Bextor several award nominations, including a BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist. Murder on the Dancefloor is reported to have been the most played song in Europe in 2002.
