This week I’ve been listening to a lot of Caamp, the indie folk sensation from Arlington, Ohio. Caamp started with childhood friends Taylor Meier and Evan Westfall meeting at a summer camp during middle school. After graduating from Upper Arlington High School in 2012, Taylor began playing solo gigs in coffee shops around Athens while studying at Ohio University.

The duo expanded to a quartet with the addition of bass player Matt Vinson and keyboardist Joseph Kavalec. Together, they’ve released four albums so far. Their self-titled debut dropped in 2016 on Square Roots Records, followed by a six-song EP in 2018. In 2019, their second full-length album, “By and By,” released under Mom + Pop Music, featuring the popular single “Peach Fuzz.”

Peach Fuzz is a very cute song that feels like an ode to summer love. Sometimes that’s what you need in January. It sounds a little similar to Weezer’s “Thought I Knew,” but in my opinion, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

On June 24, 2022, the band released their third studio album, Lavender Days. The release of the album was preceded by three singles: “Believe”, “Apple Tree Blues”, and “Lavender Girl”. Their song Apple Tree Blues was featured on Barack Obama’s summer playlist!
