This song is actually a cover, originally released by the Sutherland Brothers in 1972. Rod Stewart is a British rocker and this was the first album he recorded in the US and not the UK. Fun fact: Rod Stewart was awoken in his hotel room by a 10 am phone call to rush over to the studio to record the vocals. Although he wasn’t used to recording vocals without alcohol, he succeeded, recalling: “I’d never sung anything in a studio without having a drink – let alone a big old anthem. And I’d never sung anything, anywhere that early in the morning. Got it in six or seven takes though.”
